I just dont think its easy to design and create a mission where sending out a recon team is the only option players have, because most of the time you can just go head on blitzkrieg and defeat an enemy force 2-3 times larger than yourself. The ai are too stupid to be a significant threat in 1 on 1 battles and charging out is usually the most time efficient method in most cases.
I tried to design a mission where recon tactics were paramount to succeeding a mission by having an extremely deadly and large enemy force that outnumbered friendlies, but it proved too challenging and overwhelming(tedious)
