I really appreciate when people use voices in missions. It adds so much to mood comparing to just reading sideChat! It doesn't have to be perfect! Not every mission needs it, but if there is more storyline/radio comms, adding a bit of voice puts your mission to next level.
Recruiting professional/devoted amateurs to do voice acting is real treat, but even without, you have couple of options. One is mentioned generators but I have mixed feelings about them. However, easiest person to recruit is yourself. I have the worst voice in business, but I started doing voices in my missions as no one else wanted to do it. Every time I see video of my mission and hear my voice I want to go to hide in a cave. If you don't want to do it yourself, or accent doesn't match, another good source is your friends (buy them few beers and they will live in fame while the mission is in workshop!) or try this thread : ) We have very cool voices with various accents. Doing lines takes a bit of effort, but it won't harm to ask.
Anecdote:
I asked my friends (this was before my time with CiA) to do voice acting. All the rowdy male warriors were bitching "eek, noo, i have bad voice, I need to adjust my lipstick, I have bad accent, blabla". Then I asked my friends 15 year old daughter. "That is so cool! I'll do it!". Junior Tech Sergeant Dahlia was a real trooper.
/End of anecdote.
There are couple of pretty easy ways to edit your voice with Audacity to make it sound like coming through military radio and to alter it to make it sound less horrible (speaking of myself here). I should have posted guide about it long ago but just haven't gotten to it. I'll see what I can do.
