Re: DCS: World - kutya - 09-04-2014

Hi guys,

Another sale on the DCS website. The usual stuff, but I received a detailed newsletter and I was surprised how much is going on with DCS. Definitely will try to dig deeper in it (besides trying to master Silent Hunter on full manual mode, iRacing and casual gaming Big Grin) I can't even get myself to make a proper Arma install to play again online.

Nice to see some people are actively playing it, unlike me Smile I own most of the stuff for at least a year and I still didn't learn any of them properly. I have flown the A10 a couple times, destroyed some targets, but I usually return to good old Il2 1946 where the tech is much more simple (or even nonexistent).

If you don't mind a rookie messing up your day, I'd like to join sometimes.

Re: DCS: World - Misha - 09-05-2014

Hi Kutya, nice to see you again and more pilots reporting in! You will find DCS fun after a while, if not from the start, but if prefer WW2 planes there are more on the way

Ok, so it's logically to start from Su-25 training, I need to refresh my memory a bit (it's true that I don't like to fly it much - it's a crude beast and it flies like a pig attached to flock of pigeons).

As for the day, Tuesday is still Arma 2/Iron Front day so we have to look for another. Fridays are not possible for me which leaves us with only three other days to chose from. I think Wednesday or Sunday would be best for me.

We chose the day by voting using site like this one: http://doodle.com/

But how about making some kind of calendar with CiA events where people can announce if they are coming, I think it may be useful for sessions where we do not expect a lots of players, like Arma 2? What's best way to do it, can it be implemented on web site or do we need to use something like google calendar?

Hey kutya, will be great to have you along, the more the merrier Smile

Your IL2 experience will probably mean you have more idea what you're doing than I do when it comes to flying planes, so don't worry about being a rookie Wink

PS. The DCS sale e-mail was accidentally mailed out containing errors in the discounts/prices and the actual discounts are 60%, not 70% apparently. Also I think it only applies to sales direct from the ED shop, not the Steam version.

Re: DCS: World - Horus - 09-05-2014

Yes this is not sale for Steam users  Tongue

Well Sunday is already an Arma3 night. Wednesday is OK for me though.

I don't know if we need a calendar, we could just have a thread where those who are going to be able to make it can post, like we've done for the Forgotten Few ArmA2 event.

I asked on the forums whether those charts I posted earlier are still accurate with the current version of DCS. No-one said either way but they pointed out that in the install folder\Bazar\Terrain there are pngs of the charts which are up-to-date (these can be viewed in-game on the Kneeboard - Rshift+K to turn On/Off and [ ] for previous/next page -  but you might find it more convenient to print them out for reference). Someone from the 476th vFG also posted some charts which they said are also up-to-date, which I've uploaded.

So you might want to use either of those rather than the previously posted charts, although they may be accurate as well, I just can't be sure.

I've also uploaded a couple of mods for the SU-25T, as that's what we're starting with. One converts all the in-cockpit labels into English for those of us who don't read Russian  Tongue
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1fDI89phEESSFJYUEdFV1hsMVU/edit?usp=sharing
http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=127158

and the other leaves it as Russian but fixes up a few things
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1fDI89phEESREVMendoaFZ2dkE/edit?usp=sharing
http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=96829

I've attached them as JSGME-compatible mods, as the original downloads aren't setup with the correct folder layout for that. If you're not familiar with it, there's a good post here which explains how to install and use it http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=98607 I'm using a folder in my DCS install folder named JSGME for the mods but you name it anything as long as it's not already used by DCS. Then you just unzip the mods into that JSGME (or whatever you name it) folder and when you run JSGME, you'll see them listed and can easily enable them, disable them before updating DCS and re-enable them again after.

Another mod I highly recommend is Mustang's Clouds & Sky, which also incorporates PeterP's fix for a bug that causes annoying flashing white dots when enabling HDR with ATI 69xx cards
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1fDI89phEESYU90MFFobF9Bb00/edit?usp=sharing
http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=113374

Also useful is using Snapviews, which you view by holding Num0 and pressing one of the other Num keys, or pressing RCtrl+Num0 to switch into Snapview mode and then you can just press the other Num keys to switch between the views and RCtrl+Num0 again to leave Snapview mode. This mod will enable Custom Snapviews, which as the name implies, will allow you to overwrite the default ones with ones you set to suit yourself.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1fDI89phEESc1VYMlZuRTlOVGs/edit?usp=sharing

The mod doesn't set the custom Snapviews, so they'll still be set to the defaults until you set your own like so:

1. Toggle Snapviews: Rctrl+Num0
2. Press the Snapview you want to change: e.g. Num5
3. Untoggle Snapviews: Rctrl+Num0
4. Move/pan/zoom your view to where you want it with the mouse/keyboard
5. Save current view: RAlt+Num0

One more thing to check. With my keyboard, for some reason DCS doesn't see my \ key as \ but as OEM102, so with the default keymappings, any key that's mapped to \ (e.g. Comms menu) doesn't work. It might only be specific to my MS Sidewinder X4 keyboard but you can check by going into controls SU25-T - Communications and next to Communication Menu double-click where it shows \ and with the Assignment screen open, press your \ key. If it shows \, then you're fine and you can click cancel but if it shows something else, like OEM102, then you need to click OK to set that as an extra assignment and do likewise for the other two commands that use \ at the bottom of the list, Switch dialog and Switch to main menu.

Sorry, I meant Saturday actually, lack of sleep is really getting me.

But if Wednesday is fine with you, then I guess that's it.

Anybody else?

lol, OK. I couldn't do Saturday anyway.

Re: DCS: World - kutya - 09-07-2014

If I'll still be alive after work + Forgotten Few + work, then I may join on Wednesday too. Where to find you people? CiA TS? And around what time?

Re: DCS: World - Varanon - 09-07-2014

You can also join the CiA skype group

Thanks. I didn't use Skype for a long while, so I completely forgot about the group.

Re: DCS: World - Misha - 09-07-2014

Let's play on Wednesday then,  say,  from 2000 cet and we'll be on teamspeak and available to provide information where and how to connect.
Afterwards we will have training and/or combat missions depending on how things go.
We will fly su25 which is free to all dcs users.
Everything about this session is experimental so have patience if we encounter any issues.
CiA flying wing is about to stretch its,  well,  wings!

Re: DCS: World - doveman - 09-08-2014

OK, that's fine for me.

Do you have any suitable missions for training/practice or combat? All I've ever done in the mission editor is place a single plane down for taxi/take-off practice, so to place a few SU-25s down so that there's enough for everyone who joins shouldn't be a problem but anything more advanced than that is a bit beyond me, so if there's some suitable ready-made missions we can use that would be good.

Re: DCS: World - Variable - 09-08-2014

Make sure to film it! Smile

Re: DCS: World - Misha - 09-08-2014

I've found three combat missions, they work, but they include ground-start and have at most 4 Su-25T slots, and about 4-8 more slots for other aircraft. The number of missions available is surprisingly small, I have to dig harder. On the other hand, Su-25T is not most poplar aircraft, there are more missions for other types.

If you could make just in case Su-25T mission with eight slots or more, with ground and air start, that would be nice. It can be something simple, but I guess we need also to have waypoints for navigation which need to be added to the mission. I don't know anything about mission editor, and all I can do is look for missions.

I need to to further refresh my memory when it comes to weapons which Su-25T use, they are too many!Â
