Re: DCS: World - Alwarren - 10-07-2014

Hope things get better soon. I have my own share of back problems, it's really more than just a little bit annoying.

Thanks Misha. Actually, sciatica is more of a pain in the arse  ;D

Quote:I'm glad for those few coops we had and I think we were moving slowly to the right direction and getting better at blowing stuff up. Smile

Yeah, they were good fun and I certainly learnt a lot in just those few sessions, that would have taken me a lot longer to figure out on my own. Using the Phantasmagoria (I still can't believe that's a real word!) to take out the Anti-Air defences was quite simple. Being able to find and target a tank on the Shvkal whilst flying towards it at 400km/h is just something that comes with a lot of practice though I guess Smile

There's some nice laidback sounding squadrons who post their details on the DCS forum, who specialise in teaching newbs like us (one that focuses on the UH-1H and has ex-pilots and instructors), so you might want to investigate those in the meantime. The problem is finding one that operates on a suitable day, as a lot seem to be on Thursday or Sunday.

I guess we all had our share of back problems when we got older, but luckily, mine never got so severe that the limited my activities.

All the best, dove man!

Thanks Varanon, I guess it's payback time for bunking off PE when I was at school to hang out with my asthmatic mate who was exempted on account of his asthma Wink

Really though, it's probably just due to sitting down far too much and exercising far too little in the last few years. It becomes a bit of a vicious circle, as the pain can be exhausting and then the meds tend to make me very tired and then it's hard to exercise. I've found that if I just eat breakfast and dinner and don't eat in between, I have a lot more energy as my bodies not constantly digesting food, so I'm slowly getting into a routine of doing the list of exercises I got from the physio last time I saw her. I've been referred back to see her again now but with the state of our health service at the moment, there's a long waiting list and she'll probably only give me the same exercises to do anyway, so I might as well get on with them whilst I'm waiting.

Thanks for the tip, I'll fall off when I push on my rudder pedals though  ;D

Seriously, I have heard they're good for back problems though. Another tip I've read is to stand on one leg whenever you're standing, doing the washing up for example and even to stand when reading or watching TV (basically anything where you'd normally sit and don't have to) up and to alternate legs every minute or so. I don't think the time between switching is particularly important, the idea is that we're designed to move and standing still is almost as bad as sitting, so by switching between legs it exercises the muscles that get unused when sitting or standing.

I've got a pile of stretching/back exercises from the physio anyway, so I'm working through them and I'm sure they'll help. I also bought a vertical mouse which is much more comfortable than a normal mouse (although it's a bit more fiddly trying to place the cursor where you want it than with a normal mouse but it's just a matter of adapting to it and it's no good for games like ArmA, so I still use my normal mouse for that).

Thanks Alwarren. I saw your post in the other thread and it sounds like you've got it worse than me, so I feel for you. Indeed "annoying" doesn't come close to describing it.

I've been trying those stick on heatpack things recently and although they don't seem to help much the day I'm wearing them, it does seem to be a bit better the following day, although it might just be coincidence or the exercises I'm doing. At least it doesn't stink like that Deep Heat spray, which does seem to help a bit, as long as you don't pull something trying to get your arm behind your back to spray it and you don't accidentally spray it in your face Wink

My doctor always told me if I had something like that to keep it warm, so heat packs might not be the worst idea.

Re: DCS: World - kutya - 10-09-2014

Hey Doveman, it may be too much for your current state, but you might try out Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) once you get better.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surya_Namaskara

I chose it because it's simple, short (well, depending how many times you do it) and it works the whole body. I do it every morning 12 times, just to avoid becoming a wheelchair guy, considering my PC time. Once I had a 90 minute long yoga schedule, but I know myself enough, that I wouldn't be consistent with any exercise that lasts more than half an hour.

Re: DCS: World - doveman - 10-12-2014

Thanks kutya. I do find it hard to spend a lot of time exercising as I'm constantly thinking of other things I need or want to do and I really have to force myself to carry on. So that sounds like it might be really suitable for me Smile

I don't know much about yoga but I have read it's really good for back problems and building up core strength, so I will investigate it.

Re: DCS: World - Misha - 10-15-2014

Come to my place if you want to see day to day MiG's 29 and 21 in action. There's a preparation for the military parade which will be held tomorrow. Planes practicing lo level flying over the city and terrorizing my cat. I guess there was no parade planned in advance but that asshole Putin is coming, actually coming to my neighborhood, so they hastily found the reason to have one.

Re: DCS: World - kutya - 10-15-2014

Similar here. Didn't see any 21s but plenty of 29s and even some, dunno, probably Antonovs. 2 engine prop birds, in 3 formation, low and slow. I don't get it why people don't restrict warfare to sims Big Grin When I fly my trusty Su25, everybody can sleep and nobody dies Big Grin

No sane man would willingly accept war if he knew what it is.

EDIT: here I come preaching peace and love to a warmonger forum Big Grin

Re: DCS: World - Misha - 10-15-2014

In 20th century at least people were fighting for ideas, on the verge and into the 21st century we are fighting tribal wars again, here in Europe. Mankind is regressing to the point that there can be no talk about even partial justice among tribes in war. Sorry, I feel like writing lyrics for doom metal band.

Re: DCS: World - Sithis - 12-22-2014

Hey, anybody want to do some flying in the next two weeks?

Re: DCS: World - Misha - 12-22-2014

I'll be busy during this week, maybe next one? Doveman, Kutya?
