Remember Liberation mod from OFP? Same guys who did it bought Arma 2 engine and made a separate game which looks completely like Arma 2. It's still in beta, but it's release date is set to 25th of May.

Looking good. I'm happy for BIS, it's really nice that they manage to sell their engine. And we get a new game Smile much like a new mod hehe...

Yeah, it looks good, in some aspect better than Arma 2, but as a mod it is simply too expensive, zu teuer or ??????? ??????!

And if BIS wouldn't be releasing every two years new Arma iteration we would have all this features in a free WW2 mods.

I don't agree with you here Misha. Have you seen the revolutionary Armor simulation? With simulation of armor thickness, compartments, warhead quality, speed, angle of penetration and a lot of more parameters, it literally makes this game the most advanced armor simulation out there (please correct me if I'm wrong). This reason alone makes it worth it as a stand alone game. You will never get such fidelity on a mod! Look at i44, in many parts it's at the quality level of OFP in terms of graphics models and fidelity.
Besides, personnaly I am totally ok with paying for such enjoyment. If I take Arma 2 and OFP as examples, I spent maybe thousands of hours of fun with these games and for what costs? honstly, if you price the amount of hours of enjoyment they provide us these games worth a lot more than what we actually payed for. Iron Front might not be an exception.

I totally agree with Variable about the value for money argument of Ofp and Arma2.

If Iron Front will survive as long as Ofp or Arma2 needs to be determined as well as all the hoopla about it's presumably revolutionary features is justified. Maybe the armor effects rely on heavy scripting as it would be possible in Arma2, too with a heap of caveats but who knows?
I'm going to check it out anyway.

Variable, I think Steel Beasts Pro PE is and will remain the benchmark sim regarding armored warfare.

Bah! Another one to the "games that variable needs to play but never will due to gaming time occupied solely by BI products" list

I don't think that in a foreseeable future we will see any realistic vehicle simulation in BIS games or games based on their VR engine. Adding more damage modeling doesn't rise it to the simulation level when virtually anyone can learn everything about tank operation within minutes, and just hop in start blowing stuff up. Even Take on Helicopters didn't reach simulation level and still feels arcadey. And overall, vehicles are where simulation factor of Arma becomes a caricature of itself.

I may be too hard on Iron Front, but lately when you see what kind of addons are being sold, it feels like rip off and irritates. Here's one example: http://riseofflight.com/en/store/persona...rsonalpack
Virtual scarf and a gun for WW1 airplane simulation, only 3.99$! Scarf comes in many colors, wheee!!!

Q&A with Patelaros Vasileios aka Panzer_Baron (Art Director for Iron Front) on their forums.

Here follows a list of some of the most important unique features:
- Advanced, totally reworked tank system
- Working sights and scopes
- Breakable vehicles
- Completely different way of communication (no radio for every soldier like in arma2)
- Artillery towing by vehicles
- Artillery pushing by infantry
- New gametypes in multiplayer
