Never mind, I got them all.

Re: Voice acting in missions - Stagwine - 10-25-2015

Just for curiosity, do we have any Russian speaking Comrades?

My Russian is nothing short of atrocious and I would prefer not to degrade slavic languages with my voice acting. I am making some VDV missions, and I would like to add Russian voice acting if possible.

I might be able to help you with russian lines Stag. Post the lines you need to be read and i'll talk with some russian speakers.

There are way better speech engines available than MS Sam, even including multiple accents. I can recommend these:
https://www.ivona.com/
http://www.acapela-group.com/
Both support online previews, so you can just type whatever you want and record the output to use in missions.

Re: Voice acting in missions - SPhoenix - 01-18-2016

Having done (and played through) both, I am of a mind that making the effort to seek out real voice actors is worth it; it isn't even much effort at all.
If anything, you will be able to find people willing to record on these forums alone if you need.

Re: Voice acting in missions - Suchy - 01-18-2016

Of course real voice acting is always better, but these are good enough for placeholder voices. And servicable enough for an occasional Crossroad radio in MP missions, where most of the radio chatter comes from players anyway.
For a story based SP campaign - definitely real voice acting.

Re: Voice acting in missions - Stagwine - 01-18-2016

I really appreciate when people use voices in missions. It adds so much to mood comparing to just reading sideChat! It doesn't have to be perfect!  Not every mission needs it, but if there is more storyline/radio comms, adding a bit of voice puts your mission to next level.

Recruiting professional/devoted amateurs to do voice acting is real treat, but even without, you have couple of options. One is mentioned generators but I have mixed feelings about them. However, easiest person to recruit is yourself. I have the worst voice in business, but I started doing voices in my missions as no one else wanted to do it. Every time I see video of my mission and hear my voice I want to go to hide in a cave. If you don't want to do it yourself, or accent doesn't match, another good source is your friends (buy them few beers and they will live in fame while the mission is in workshop!) or try  this thread : ) We have very cool voices with various accents.  Doing lines takes a bit of effort, but it won't harm to ask.

Anecdote:

I asked my friends (this was before my time with CiA) to do voice acting. All the rowdy male warriors were bitching "eek, noo, i have bad voice, I need to adjust my lipstick, I have bad accent, blabla". Then I asked my friends 15 year old daughter. "That is so cool! I'll do it!". Junior Tech Sergeant Dahlia was a real trooper.

/End of anecdote.

There are couple of pretty easy ways to edit your voice with Audacity to make it sound like coming through military radio and to alter it to make it sound less horrible (speaking of myself here). I should have posted guide about it long ago but just haven't gotten to it. I'll see what I can do.

Re: Voice acting in missions - SPhoenix - 01-18-2016

Also female voice can work very well.
Example of full voice acting in coop... A full story and voice acting should not be limited to SP.

Re: Voice acting in missions - Stagwine - 03-30-2016

Often audio in mission is related to CO/HQ giving updates/tasks through the radio.

Below are couple of easy ways to edit your voice to more radio like. No, they are not my vids but I used similar tricks in my missions.

If I am crazy enough to add voices to my missions, all you who sound like professional actors already, step up! No more excuses!

Editing is done with Audacity.

Re: Voice acting in missions - Skarin - 04-22-2016

So I've been making a mission as some of you know and have helped me with a bit. One or two bits lend themselves to a voiced HQ well, so I put a post on that rsddit forum, nothing too fancy, asked em to read out a HQ line. Ten minutes later someone has already done it. For free. Brilliant tool for getting lines quickly from people who know what they're doing.

Re: Voice acting in missions - alias - 04-22-2016

Sounds great Stag, thank you. I know i could use some of that. I assume you talking about reddit?
