Bravo was assigned to recon from a hill and support while alpha flanked the objectives from the right. I personally didn't have much action as the EOD specialist because my m4 rifle had a low power scope and because we were engaging enemies beyond 400m. I don't think many of us were effective at engaging the enemy because of the volume of ammo we needed to spend to dispatch small groups of enemies. Our marksman and m249 gunner seemed to be functional enough at that range but i think we would have been more effective if assigned to support Alpha rather than being assigned a spot on the hill until the evac objective.

There were the support crates which had some scopes at the starting area. I managed to get a scope and bipod and m4 was faily effective even at range.

Re: The Debriefing Thread - Watchmen - 12-15-2015

Im not claiming to be 100% sure but i think even with full accuracy the 5.56 damage drops off exponentially after around 300-400m. Even if you managed to hit i don't think anyone would be doing a lot of damage with that caliber.

Re: The Debriefing Thread - Evans - 12-15-2015

Yeah, keeping bravo on the hill is on me.
I got caught up with dealing with the task at hand and kind of forgot bravo, my bad.

I didn't make it any better by trying to keep my launcher guys, engineer and medic safer than my MG's, until the very end i thought there would be somethign coming up for the launchers and I wanted to make sure there was someone left to pick up our limbs xD.... but i totally forgot that we had the MG vehicle we could very well have made use of  :-[

At least the MG's did loose some rounds and I think they did soften up the hill a bit for alfa

Re: The Debriefing Thread - Evans - 12-16-2015

When I lead I don't mind if bravo leader comes with suggestions of what he wants do. Especially when bravo is ineffective.

Re: The Debriefing Thread - UnNamedGER - 12-16-2015

yea, i was a bit slow with that, we were able to keep fire up at the guys on the hill so i decided to do that until you were on the hill, then i went to check out the complex when we had no more targets, when you went back into the town i took two men with me to scout a position for my team, but we were only able to draw very little fire until you destroyed the second truck so i didnt get to call the rest of the team to the position.

all the time I was expecting something  like one or two armored vehicles and or a chopper to show up which was why I didnt want to get my team into a close engagement from which the guys with the launchers might not have been able to fire

Re: The Debriefing Thread - Variable - 12-17-2015

Team leaders, feel free to remind the mission leader in case your team is left, or about to be left, without enough action for your men.

CO@10_Lost_Pilot

That was an intense mission for me, I was frightened more than once

After I spawned I did a quick gear check, no radio, no map, no compass, no GPS. 8 magazines 30 round 9mm, 3 RGO grenades, 5 groundflares, 3 red smokes, a flare launcher and 5 red flares.

Great, I forgot to grab my SMG

I decided movement would be my best chance and started  paralleling the road I spawned next to hoping I might be able to spot friendlies looking for me. after about 500 meters someone shot at me so i sprinted over the next ridge and changes direction a few times afterwards and with that managed to loose my pursuers for now.
I kept moving roughly parallel to the road and soon got my first glimpse of a town. I circled wide around the town towards my left and moved onto a hill over it to look for movement, but saw nothing. I started moving out again, but then heard an explosion in the direction I came from and decided to go back, if there were no friendlies, there might at least be dead bodys to scavenge a weapon, compass and most important a radio from. I moved back towards the treeline and fired one of my flares and waited for a reaction. while i was waiting there was some shooting on the other side of the town, I watched the direction for some time as the shooter didn't seem to be shooting at me.
Suddenly there were steps behind me and I saw an enemy directly behind me. i threw a grenade at him and started running and he started shooting,  when the shooting didn't stop after the explosion i turned around and threw my second and third grenade back at the tree I had been cowering next to and when the shooting continued threw my smokey while running over a open field to cover my retreat while i was still being shot at with at least one rifle and one grenade launcher.

When I reached the next treeline I changed direction a few times and soon was away from the city on a hill and watched again. There was a rocket launched and exploded on the hill on the other side of the valley. being sure that it meant friendly troops in contact I started moving there and on the way fired 3 of my flares into the air.
I tried to find the place of the explosion, but was not able to.

Then I heard a HMG firing in the direction of the town and started to circle the town on the other side this time. After I crossed a small road, there was an explosion behind me. someone was firing grenades at me. after a while I was being shot at by a prone enemy close and in panic threw a ground flare in his face and ran away again the direction I came from.
I crossed the road again and wanted to move around the city towards the firing and on the way check if I had managed to kill the guy who snuck up on me earlyer.

When I was just about to go uphill towards the possible dead guy I heard shots again, this time two different makes and not to far away. Was that a m16 ? . I moved into the town and got view of a HMMV that was turning around away from me and fried my last flare and threw my red ground flares around it and then got into it.

Alwarren and Evans took me out of the town towards the side I had not yet seen and after being ambushed almost on his location regrouped with Variable, Evans was unfortunately killed during the ambush. Variable asked for a new HMMV from command and was granted it and we moved out again dodging a RPG. a bit down the road we were fired upon again with a RPG but again weren't hit and made it mostly uneventful back to the base were for some reason after the trigger there was an enemy team that took out the vehicle alwarren and me were in.

I guess someone bolder than me would have managed to find a radio and a weapon, but I never saw enemys before they shot at me (except for the guy sneaking up on me). Also I didn't want to broadcast my position by using the grenades.

Re: The Debriefing Thread - Alwarren - 12-28-2015

The one mission that stood out for me yesterday was Wild Flyers, and not in a positive but a very negative way. Not because of the mission, but because of the players.

What was demonstrated in this mission was the worst case of anarchy I have seen in a long time. I am not going to point out anything specific, but believe me that if I had been leader in this mission I would have personally shot some of you.

Now I know this was kind of a chaotic setup to begin with, but that does not mean everybody should be free to do whatever they like. It is one of the reasons why I will not lead missions like that, and I can only say I feel sorry for Valhalian to have taken this one on. If you think the team leader does not do enough leading, I expect everyone to SUPPORT him, not to use it as an excuse for utter chaos and Rambo tactics.

FHQ Plant your fields

Whew. Finally this is completed. Mission started well with Sithis (cmd) and Rundll (driver) in the APC. We scored hits on helicopter, some infantry at radar dome, and destroyed one light victor near town. We moved a bit closer to hull down position and spotted a thermal of Kamysh turret in town at 1 klick (I originally misidentified it as AAA). Commander Sithis (that has a Star Wars tone to it somehow..) promptly ordered to engage rebel scum. Now, in hindsight, having played this mission of horror 5 times, I probably should have given discreet commentary that 'Uh, sir,  it might not be the best idea'. I didn't for two reasons. 1) It was a direct clear order. Imperial APCs don't question orders and in general I prefer 'boss says-grunt does'. 2) We were in partial hull down cover in relation to town. I thought we can make it back if we spot further threats. I didn't pick any infantry with launchers, nor any other clear threat on my scanner except the Kamysh.

30 secs after we had lit up the BTR we were took a guided proton torpedo and mechanized infantry turned to just regular stormtrooper outfit with funky helmets. I still don't know what hit us. It was instant one-shotter so my guess is guided AT or tank cannon.

Rest of mission included lot of walking back and forth. We lost our tank mid to mission and all teams were ordered back to staging area. From there we went to radar station, and took out AAAs with guideds in town. Not much to see for Delta but I knew we had very very good reasons to stay back.  In general I didn't mind lack of  direct action. I knew what was going on around me and had a feeling that my team was gear in a machine. It might not be most exciting job at all times, but I felt my team contributed. Air support decimated lot of threats, and in end we assaulted final objective on foot after Hunter transit. Some nice infantry action in the end and chance to use battlefield capture UBL.

From grunts viewpoint, great leading from Variable (overall) and my team leader Sithis. Very clear orders. What I liked was that Sithis frequently kept team informed of whats happening. 'Ok, Delta..we're about to get our orders shortly, hold this ground for now', etc, etc. Due our alternate channel setup it might have been technically redundant, I heard what was going on in command grid, but I liked it. It contributed to mood/immersion and it was good leading.

Jihadi Jesus Superstar

This mission had certain unique Phantomesque theme with lot of tracers, explosions and political incorrectness. Teamwork gave way to general chaos and lightshow (with considerable penalty to fps). Several foiled attempts. In first one my team leader got KIA in landing, in second one our plane was shot down and in last one I missed my teams dropzone and joined other team. I had abysmal FPS and in general lot of confusion. My STHud didn' show my new teammates and I got taken out by Blackhawk which I thought was friendly.

Sure, this is 'different' kind of mission, but there's still no reason not to play it co-operatively. In general I'd prefer that missions like this are rare spice now and then rather than everyday event.

I'd like to try this mission in Entebbe raid style.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Entebbe

We go around from south, wide distance, and approach airfield directly from west. We fly nap to earth, and I mean low. We do not crash the C-130. We LAND it to the taxiway, or strip between taxiway and runway. Teams led by Charles Bronson and Lee Marvin will make a mad dash to Bradleys / MRAPS parked 20-30m away. Teams commandeers vehicles and go get some. Plane can take off again and crash itnto preset target, or we just destroy it with vehicles.

Yeah, I'm aware there are launchers, threats, but I' curious to see if it is doable.  If nothing else, just for sake of trying it.

Harvest Moon

I was first going to join you in ground but then I thought that curator on the sky will probably be needed (besides I like curating. Remnant from my RP DM days). I was right. FATA is a great map, but it is designed with PVP in mind. AI is probably ok on flat ground, but in this particular mission involving canyons, ravines, rocks, and caves, it had its share of trouble. My hunch is that it simply didn't recognize some obstacles and it got frequently stuck and simply refused to move.

Another headache was the cave system. Most of my surprises and ambushes didn't work in dedi server. AI placed inside tunnels was ejected outside and some left their position to engage you when you entered village. Mines were clipped to rock floor and didn't detonate. I checked in start that AI seems to be roughly in right spot, and didn't notice that caves were actually empty. I had to run some guys there manually, as placing AI to cave through Zeus interface didn't work. At this phase you were also getting close so it would have looked silly to spawn enemies from thin air.

I think teams did very well. In the end you missed the cave entrances narrowly and at this phase I started to give discreet hints. In the end I had to run one of the insurgents outside of the cave and bumped to bunch of you guys. Was fun to listen the local WTF comments. I just managed to lob a grenade before you cut me to pieces : P

I was very thankfull for that as I was down to two belts with 2 rounds each (which i was just aboutd to repack) when you supplyied me with an AK ^^... had I had more ammo i would not have shouted but put half a belt in your general direction xD instead of two punny quickly aimed rounds before sprinting away from your grenade., that was a real WTF moment... especially when I saw you trying to run away after the first encounter sincee I was sure the others had gotten you
I was just leading Sithit to the spot where I thought the entrance might be and your apparence showed I was right.

also this encounter showed me why i like to have a pistol with at least one magazine as backup^^

Plant Your Fields

First we had to deal with the AAA.
My intentions were to attack from the east, hoping that we could find an angle to squeeze in a Titan. According to the position of the AAA, it looked like it will be possible to line up with the street in which the AAA was positioned and have a clear line of fire. I planned to use our armor for cover as much as possible while keeping them from potential AT fire from the town, and that proved impossible. To have the tank and the APC effective, they will have to expose themselves. And that's my main difficulty with support vehicles when commanding Arma missions. On the one hand, I want everybody to take part in the action, but on the other hand, I want to vehicle teams to survive at least through most of the mission. That's why I let the Armor get ambitious and move out from cover. I was aware that definitely put a timer on the crews' virtual lives but the infantry attack was progressing rather slowly and I didn't want them to be bored. The bright side of that decision was seeing how they were able to soften up the defenses for us, take down two reinforcement choppers, take out the main defenses of the hill military base, and, of course, destroy the east AAA. I believe the infantry teams allowed that. We prioritized AT assets and by that extended the time the armor was able to support us, and finally, spot and destroy our main target.
Great job Etzu on sniping the crew served weapons on the east side of town. They were too low for the armor to see.
Sticking to my assumption that we can take out the west AAA from the military base, we moved on foot (no more APC for you!) while keeping clear of the town. However, that hike was not uneventful. Enemy teams flanked us and attacked from the rear. The teams did a good job fending them off, and at times, disengaging to keep moving towards the vantage point.
The hill was almost clear of enemy resistance, thanks to the earlier tank and APC fire and Bravo was able to take the shot after Charlie and Delta secured the area. That must have been a wonderful shot (IceCream?), I wish I was there to see it. Manually guiding a Titan, in this range, to a partially concealed target is a work of art.
With town's air defence suppressed, two Comanche gunships moved in and opened fire (guys, if any of you is still not using Laxmann's Dynasound, get it, nawww! Immersion get a whole new meaning, especially with the improved helicopter sounds).
Another transit. We called in for support and command granted us with four Hunter transports. Unfortunately, one caught fire upon landing and we had to do two trips using Charlie team as our drivers.
The attack on the enemy command post was executed perfectly, and we even manage to overcome armored reinforcements, some due to pure luck (Charlie had some battle salvaged ATs, bless the spaghetti monster for that). I didn't expect to face armor on our flanks but luckily it came while Alpha and Delta were already in the cover of the silos and Charlie skillfully destroyed the attacking tank. The resistance at the command post itself were fierce but we managed to overcome and complete the mission.

I will not comment the other (great) missions as I was partially asleep through them. All I remember some AI moving like a human and shooting at me Wink

I think that might have been Sphoenix doing, he told me at some point that he was seeing tanks well beyound the town if I remember correctly, since I had no other target that time I let him engage them. All in All my crew (Sphoenix as gunner and The Grinch as driver) did a great job Smile

That's correct, from the hill we engaged and successfully disabled a T-100 at over 2km distance. Crew bailed, I can't remember if the vehicle exploded.

I do want to note that last time we tried this mission I was with Unnamed in the APC. We enjoyed a solid survivability then, this time we were able to exert a lot of hurt on the enemy for a long time. It's not complicated, just a lot of communication, constant constant communication. What got us in the end was infantry which flanked us. Next step is never stopping being vigilant. As the gunner when I was not engaging I was constantly surveying all angles. When I am engaging a target or an area the commander needs to keep that 360 surveillance constant.

Unnamed, you are an awesome commander. I'm your man anytime!
