Losing all sound in Arma III - WCG - 04-10-2013

I'm having a periodic problem in Arma 3 where I lose all sound in the game, and I have to exit the game, then re-start it to get the sound working again. It doesn't happen often, but it's really disrupting when it does happen.

This only happens in Arma 3, but that's also the only time I use my headphones (Plantronics GameCom 780). And the last time it happened, I was playing with you guys and using Teamspeak for the first time, and I also lost the ability to speak in Teamspeak (although I could still hear the other players, they couldn't hear me).

When this happens, I hear a sound in Windows (I'm using Windows 7) that's the same as when I turn my printer on or off (the "device connect" or "device disconnect" sound). However, nothing should be connecting or reconnecting then.

I leave my headphones plugged in all the time (although I make my speakers the default sound device when I'm not using the headphones), but this never happens any other time. I thought it was just a bug with Arma 3, but since it also affected Teamspeak - though in a weird way - maybe it's the headphones, instead?

Any suggestions? It's annoying to have to exit Arma 3 in the middle of a mission, even when I can just re-start it again. But if I can't stop this from happening, is there any other way I might get the sound back? (Note that the sound in Windows continues to work, with no problem.)

Thanks,

Bill

OK, I might have discovered the problem already. At least, there's a hotfix at Microsoft which seems to apply to this:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2721341

If this doesn't work, I'll try again. Meanwhile, I'll keep my fingers crossed.

It's a USB headset then? Arma and TS can't switch output when running, so if it loses connection for some weird reason, it won't come back by itself.
A normal headset should work fine, but that's not really a solution Wink

My old fatality head set also lost all of the sounds because the jacks were slightly broken and even a smallest pull on the cord disconnected them. After that I needed to restart the game and teamspeak. It was a 2x 3,5mm headset though, not a usb one.

Yup. The headset is new, but I didn't know anything about them when I bought it. (Still don't.)

So far, the hotfix has been working, but since it doesn't happen all the time, I can't tell for sure. But I'm pretty sure that was the problem.

Nope. That hotfix didn't work. At least, it happened again just now.
