Re: LDDK Mega Coop Night January 29th 2012 - Rund - 01-22-2012

There is very little chance I'm home in time next week to participate, too bad.

Re: LDDK Mega Coop Night January 29th 2012 - Spinoza - 01-24-2012

Alright, CiA has 11 slots +1 in the command section, in total 12. I attached the pilot you requested directly to the inf section. Reason being that folk and CiA starts at different location from LDDK and its better that Stoops gets info about targets directly from the leader of CiA.

The game starts at 21.00 Finnish time, thats 20.00 CET. We will not pick up any late comers, that includes even  LDDK .

Re: LDDK Mega Coop Night January 29th 2012 - Misha - 01-28-2012

Since Variable will be absent I am taking over liaison duties till Coop night. Then someone else can take over, if there's someone particularly interested in being CiA leader. I know that few of our members will be absent, but I think others should give it a try, it's demanding but very rewarding experience indeed.

Re: LDDK Mega Coop Night January 29th 2012 - Misha - 01-29-2012

Good. So we try to stay alive and plan afterwards what to do with our lives if we make it, sounds like an ordinary day for me (at least philosophically).  Tongue

It's nice because it will reduce planning required to start the mission but we will need to do some planning along if we make it in the beginning. On what map will mission take place?

Re: LDDK Mega Coop Night January 29th 2012 - Spinoza - 01-29-2012

If you mean island its Chernarus. LDDK will start at different location from folk & Cia (LDDK at Vybor airfield, folk & cia at Krasnostav airfield). Enemy attacks occurs roughly at same moment in both. Less than 8 minutes after mission starts. After the attack is defeated, all units will start moving south(wards). Everything shall be revealed in the final briefing later today.

Re: LDDK Mega Coop Night January 29th 2012 - Spinoza - 01-29-2012

co 70 Operation Kutuzov
Chernarus 29.1.2012
07.20

Situation:
Comrades, the imperialist pigs of NATO have landed on Chernarus. Obviously we can not tolerate western influence and troops that close to our beloved rodina and we have responded accordingly. We seized two airfields yesterday morning and have a modest contingent of troops and equipment available including some aircraft and a single Mi24. Unfortunately our military leaders were quite slow to react and because of their incompetence NATO has managed to push from Elektrozavodsk all the way to the north. The enemy lines are quite literally within sight from our positions. Fighting is expected to be heavy. NATO has substantial airpower and armour. In addition to NATO forces the local CDF army has joined the NATO cause and have some modest forces opposing us. Fight your way to Elektrozavodsk and liberate Chernarus!

Tasks:
1) Defeat the inevitable NATO attack, apparently from south. You have less than 8 minutes to prepare.
2) Eliminate the British field commander in Myshkino
3) Eliminate the US army field commander and HQ south of Novy Sobor
4) Eliminate the USMC commander and HQ in Berezino
5) Find and terminate the CDF commander and his HQ southwest of Zelenogorsk
6) Destroy all NATO presence in Elektrozavodsk

Equipment:
Both airfields have vehicle service points along the runway. Support vehicles marked on map. Ammo and weapon boxes marked on map. Additional support vehicles inside hangars, these in case the vehicle service points do not work properly.

Chernarus 29.1.2012, 07.20 local time
Hello all. This brief is for Operation Kutuzov. We now have more information and intelligence information so the orders are updated with more details.

Orders to the Company.
Fortify current positions and defeat the attacking enemy. After situation is clear, prepare to move south and attack targets.

Pilots only: Make sure you are deployed ASAP. Your primary objective is only to locate, identify and relay the information of the incoming enemy air and land targets to the own platoon. Your secondary objective is to destroy enemy targets, which could affect massive hit to the own platoon. DO NOT jeopardy the plain in any circumstances during the first attack! Defeat to North if needed.

First phase targets

Updated orders to Folk Platoon.
Fortify current positions and defeat the enemy. After attack is defeated, attack Berezino with Cia and defeat the enemy. Deploy recon team first to check the area.

Updated orders to CiA Platoon.
Fortify current positions and defeat the enemy. After attack is defeated, attack Berezino with Folk and defeat the enemy. Folk will deploy recon team first to check the area, use the intelligence info from Folk.

Orders to LDD Kyllikki Platoon.
Fortify current positions and defeat the enemy. After attack is defeated, attack Myshkino and defeat the enemy. Deploy recon team first to check the area.

Second phase targets

Orders to Folk Platoon.
After sucessfull attack to Berezino, attack Novy Savor with Cia and defeat the enemy. Deploy recon team first to check the area.

Updated orders to CiA Platoon.
After sucessfull attack to Berezino, attack Novy Savor with Folk and defeat the enemy. Deploy recon team first to check the area.

Orders to LDD Kyllikki Platoon.
After sucessfull attack to Myshkino, attack Zelenogorsk and defeat the enemy. Deploy recon team first to check the area.

Third phase targets

Orders to Folk Platoon.
After sucessfull attack to Novy Savor, move to Sount near Kamyshovo (North East from Elektrozavodsk) and after separate command attact with the rest of the troops to Elektrozavodsk. One platoon will deploy recon team first, so secure the area and be prepared first.

Updated orders to CiA Platoon.
After sucessfull attack to Novy Savor, move to Sount near Topolka Dam (North from Elektrozavodsk) and after separate command attact with the rest of the troops to Elektrozavodsk. One platoon will deploy recon team first, so secure the area and be prepared first.

Orders to LDD Kyllikki Platoon.
After sucessfull attack to Novy Savor, move to Sount near Pusta (North North West from Elektrozavodsk) and after separate command attact with the rest of the troops to Elektrozavodsk. One platoon will deploy recon team first, so secure the area and be prepared first.

Good hunting, men.
Company CO, Staff Sergeant Sami

*EDIT*  I didn't mean to lay off all the responsibility on Spinoza.  The fact that it was *very* close means that if I had gotten just a few feet more before I started rolling probably would have meant a successful takeoff.  I understand the reasons for not bunching us all up together at one airfield.  However in this case, having at least all the air assets leave from the large airfield would have been helpful.

All in all, a tragedy but one that offers us some lessons and in the end, its still just a game!

Re: LDDK Mega Coop Night January 29th 2012 - Spinoza - 01-30-2012

First of all, thank you for showing up in such large numbers. Apparently the game did not go as expected. I take some responsibilty, the enemy attack at the beginning was a total faux pas on my part. I checked the map and noticed you positioned yourselves quite nicely. Im not quite sure what happened over there but apparently you took some heavy casualties?

I suspect you cancelled the attack on Berezino? The triggers work, you may have destroyed the wrong guy and HQ. The markers were not spot on, just in the general area. I assumed you had enough manpower and firepower considering you had folk & ARPS + CiA fighting side by side, not to mention the two airvehicles. I tested the Su25 in editor and had no problem getting airborne, no idea what happened to the Mi24.

Yes, I put you guys and LDDK on two different starting locations beacuse I did not want to "stack" everyone so close to eachother, especially in Chernarus. As for the enemy strenght, Im not in the habit of giving too much information about enemy dispositions. I have noticed that most players appreciate some degree of  uncertainty.

I suppose my idea of a good mission differs from most people, I do not care for missions that follow the same guidelines everytime. Sometimes something "new" works, sometimes not. I would say that tonights mission falls to the latter, but some bad luck was to blame aswell.

I hope tonights messy outcome did not cause any bad feelings or similar. As a missionmaker its usually impossible to please everyone. All one can do is to learn from mistakes. Sorry for crappy English, I hope my message got through

Re: LDDK Mega Coop Night January 29th 2012 - Misha - 01-30-2012

Spinoza, thanks for inviting us and we appreciate your efforts to plan, organize and host this event.

Yeah, we had some bad luck and mission was tough, but still worth a try.

In short, here's what we did during the mission:

1. We defended eastern part of the airfiled. Attack on our flank never came so we went engaging those enemies attacking western part. Our plane crashed, pilot killed. And we had maybe one more casualty, not sure.

2. Then we went south with Folk, basically trying to be of help but so no action at all. It doesn't matter too much, we did some scouting around, for all we knew back then we could have encountered entire enemy army, we did our job.

3. Getting slaughtered by lonely Igla launcher which hit our BMP. Ouch! Minutes later, that same Igla wiped out most of the Folk's squads. We could have destroyed it earlier when we were passing in the vicinity of the base where it was located, but I totally understand why we didn't do it. We already had much distance to cover to our next objective and so wasting time on all mission non-essential objectives was out of the question. Turns out we were wrong.

I must suggest that next time CiA and Folk should have joint command right from the beginning. We had only one squad which did supporting role to Folk and was not acting on its own. I think same thing would happen every time when we work together because Folk is a larger group. CiA have only enough manpower to fill just one squad. Only if a mission gives a task which should be done by just one squad, only then we have a reason to be autonomous. As my English is not perfect I hope that this is clear enough and doesn't require further clarification.

Stoops, I take responsibility for your mishap. Yes, I managed to take off during testing but forgot to take into account:
1) the plane taxies very slow on grass
2) enemies started to show up way earlier than I expected (cant always rely on AI to do what is expected of them)
3) you had to start at a really bad spot, middle of runway

All in all, series of bad luck that just kept on bunching up.

Re: LDDK Mega Coop Night January 29th 2012 - Spinoza - 01-30-2012

MBT-squad after action report.

lieutenant Psykoisi
corporal Stellar
pfc Spinoza
pfc Shuko

MBT squad was equipped with T-90 MBT and Tunguska AA-tank.

The MBT squad was the only one which consisted mostly on the players from the actual roster. This gave the MBT squad a certain advantage over other squads which were lead by more inexperienced leaders as part of the training mission. Operating had a certain relaxiness in it due to experience.

Both tanks were located in the north part of the airfield during the defensive stance in the start of the game. Unfortunately the enemy dispersed, most likely due to our aerial activity and never really made a push for the airfield.
Our plane downed an enemy chopper on the south side of the airfield and the crew took a walk towards the field with revenge in their minds but short work were made of them by the T-90.

After this the T-90 acted as a towing vehicle and pushed a jammed fighterjet back to the strip. While doing this an enemy Harrier entered the airfields airspace but was dealt with by the Tunguska´s ground-to-air missile. The pilot did not eject.

After it came apparent that the enemy was not making it´s push to the field the MBT squad was tasked to protect the convoy which consisted of CO´s ambulance Vodnik and Bravo squad´s BTR. The route had been reconned by charlie squad earlier. The convoy reached charlie and india squad´s which had been engaged by the enemies protecting the target village. Enemy sniper was killed behind charlie squad in the woodline by the Tunguska. Casualties had been sustained by the infantry and they were pulling out to regroup.
MBT squad covered the retreat and then the T-90 pushed to the middle of the village. No enemies were visible and communication and coordination with the infantry was limited at best at that point. I ordered the destruction of a village building which seemed to be the only one to be able to hold the enemy commander. This proved to be the right guess and this part of the mission was completed.

After infantry went through their ritual of ripping modern western guns from the hands of the dead british infantry the company regrouped to a new column and headed through the forest southwards for the next target.
The eager lead BTR drove right to the target and was greeted by small arms fire and the howling of dual-barreled AA-guns.
I ordered the MBT squad to drive to firing positions to the higher ground and silenced the second AA-gun and the enemy´s AA-tank inside the base. The other AA-gun ripped one of the BTRConfused open which was soon revenged by the T-90.

After that it was like shooting fish to a barrel and the enemy compound was silenced in short order. Infantry secured the site and we drove the T-90 inside and destroyed the enemy command vehicle, thus completing the tasks assigned to LDDK.

It was then decided that due to the late hour the game would be stopped at this point. MBT squad received no casualties and had no need for repairs or ammunition replenishment during the assault.

Edit: I have ~2 hour FRAPS video coming up, stay tuned.

Re: LDDK Mega Coop Night January 29th 2012 - mikey - 01-30-2012

I think it went reasonably ok. I also think having a separate radio guy helped a lot as tony could just focus on leading and I focused solely on the radio and filtered all the info that came from folk.

But since I happen to have a ghetto PC, the mission did not run smoothly for me. 550 units and full grass just makes my pc cry, so i was stuck with 12 fps for the entire mission. If it's possible it would be nice if the player could edit viewDistance and terrainGrid himself, and also some kind of spawning or caching system could help it even further because 550 units on 1 map is rather a lot.

Anyhow, so we got blown up by an Igla launcher that was in the base that we spotted and left behind? Ouch
