Usually I hate being micro-managed, but this time it worked out perfect, since Variables intended route for us lead us straight into the enemies flank. From there it was smooth sailing. Very action packed and everybody on my team was quick to react.
What made you feel like you are being micro-managed? Could it be the route I drew on the map? If that's the case, it only meant to indicate my intention to use your team to flank the enemy from the left.
That's the case for any route I mark, it's there to serve as a general indication for the ordered team, and to the rest of the units to remain aware of the plan and possible positions of friendly units. Not a specific line to walk on. The actual movement needs to be adjusted according to enemy actions, terrain, visibility, etc. Just to remove any doubt...
Yeah I just looked at the map and took the arrow as the route to be followed. It worked out perfectly though since it brought us straight to where we needed to be.
I just watched Treendy's Zavarak Data Heist video. New guys - when you hear traffic on your ear piece it means your leader is listening to the long range traffic. That means you DO NOT interrupt with questions, and non-essential reports. You especially DO NOT interrupt when you hear your own leader talking! That's why you hear the LR traffic, it's also for you to be aware of what's going on, but especially so you won't interrupt your leader when he is either listening in or speaking on the LR (command) frequency.
Quick recap on last 2 nights:

Topolka Cross
(Alpha-AT (Varanon))

Destroy AA. Eliminate hostiles at dam

Tough mission and plenty of job for AT. We decided to approach dam first and chose to use road to south. We dropped mortar team (Variable-KMAN) midway to setup indirect fire support. We disembarked 150m from x-roads and split teams. Bravo got to heavy firefight almost immediately. We moved to assist and on our way back I spotted armed MRAP. I was able to get a shot through the forest, kaboom.

Alpha got to heavy firefight at x-roads and took fire from dam and opposite hillside both. Varanon called in mortar fire and I engaged one BTR and another MRAP at the dam. I scored hits but was shortly killed after this.

Night raid Rumaya
(BRDM-2 gunner (Valhalian))

Raid insurgent compound

Simple setup and genuine Phantomer so no shortage of targets. We set up to support infantry push on left flank and scored first hits right at start. Unfortunately we weren't in best position to support the infantry as they got closer to compound. We relocated BRDM to right flank and it likely would have been a better move at start. Infantry had already taken casualties but for us it was a turkey shoot.

We spotted several technicals approaching compound but they were no match for KPV. Unfortunately there was also a tank and this time BRDM wasn't a match against tank. Kaboom. EOM.

Prodigal son [FHQ]
(Grenadier, SMAW operator (McGregor, Variable))

Raid insurgent compound. Locate rogue CIA asset, destroy trucks

We took two attempts with this one. Both attempts utilized roughly similar tactic. Have one team to sneak up on BMP crew, capture it and use it for support.

On first attempt McGregor left Variable behind up on hill with SMAW and HE warhead. We sneaked upon the compound, boss commanded us to open fire and we eliminated the BMP crew quickly. All good so far. However we received a counterattack relatively shortly and came under heavy grenade fire from the hill slope resulting lots of casualties.

Second attempt was roughly same setup. This time I was SMAW gunner in overwatch with Valhalian and heavy mg. Team sneaked up and we quickly eliminated the BMP crew. I pelted the area with 40mms and Valhalian put mg fire to target. I was then commanded to get into BMP-1 and support infantry.

Operating Soviet period metallic trashcan at night time alone isn't without its..challenges. I had to swap between seats and drivers periscope is very narrow. This resulted to some close calls and I accidentally bumped Phantom and Val with it. Fortunately no casualties.

I put some rounds at approaching infantry and got a report of the Mi-24 approaching. I scored hits with PKT and in the end 2 direct hits with Grom cannon. Splash one hind.

Variable gave me free hands to operate vehicle and directed fire with flares and smoke. Lots of bush, buildings, so obtaining targets was what it was. I knocked over walls and simply used the HE cannon for effect with my best guesses. Apparently it worked. I eliminated two target trucks and infantry demolition specialists took care of the rest two.

Variable spotted BTR but despite use of flares I couldn't get it to my sights. I think it got stuck to ravine. However it wouldn't have been threat to me in BMP but I was concerned of infantry.

Boots on ground located Bishop and we had bumpy extraction with BMP. Mission complete, but hopefully this returns in TT.

Island Thunder ep 5
(A - Demo specialist (Alwarren))

Locate missing pilots

Another good IT2 ep. Not much work with demolitions but plenty of action otherwise. We chose straightforward approach to west, and got to heavy firefight at the village/x-roads. We took cover in a building and traded shots with opposite side for a while. Alwarren gave order to disengage and we started moving towards objective.

Alwarren lost connection at church, I took over for a short period. Alpha located pilot at top floor of one of the villas, Alwarren returned and we continued the mission. Bravo was sent to secure another compound and me and Valhalian had a short firefight as we were investigating one of the other villas.

Another pilot found, and with both of them in tow we had uneventful hike to extraction.

Play the mission yourself and find out.

Life was short&brutal for Kenny.  Kenny had it coming. Kenny had a blast (sic). Kenny enjoyed it while it lasted.

Fog of war
(AA TL)

Shoot down Takistani general

This time our chosen approach was more straight forward. Varanon decided to keep both teams on north side of airfield. AA team was to take position at hilltop near eastern side of runway, sabotage team was further west and sniper duo somewhere in middle.

I think the fog effect was better this time although navigating was still challenging. Thanks to Variable for providing me assistance.  On the higher ground fog bank faded and transit to op was uneventful although atmospheric.

We got a message of general attempting to land and Varanon declared open fire. My AT specialists (Variable, Val, Brad) took aim. Two Stingers on a Su-25 on final approach = one fried general. Saboteur team started their push to trucks and we opened up on targets at airfield. Ural ZU-23's are hot so Variable was able to lock to one with a Stinger, removing a potential threat.

Unfortunately door gunners of helicopters eliminated our saboteur team and assumedly the sniper duo. I got no response in radio, and as my team was out of ordnance, I gave order to evacuate to boats. This time we actually found them without 5 min search in the cursed fog. Variable gave me exit vector and after dodging fire from Mi-17 we extracted. Partially complete, but fog of war will return.

Prince of Persia VII
(A-Marksman (Alwarren))

Eliminate peace delegates (ugly but it pays well)

This is turning out to be a huge nemesis. Trigger is still too unforgiving. It IS possible to complete as I intend it but it has very limited margin for error. We got further this time though and eliminated one of targets.

I will continue adjustments.

Raid two towns with friendly motor rifles

Ye, that really was name of the mission. This turned out to be nice simple infantry snack. Our BMPs started their move at the mission start leaving the infantry bite the dust. I think we should have stayed in vehicle for longer but I didn't want to restart.

Not many ways to approach objective. Surrounding terrain was pretty much open plain. Valhalian's short controlled bursts kept the enemy busy and we cleared the first objective.

Enroute to second objective we spotted a tank at a distance. Problem was, we were in pretty much plain open. Fortunately tank got distracted as there wouldn't have been any way for us to take it out at that range. We got closer to only building on area giving us any cover and our ATs managed to eliminate the tank. Great job.

After that our grenadiers opened up on town and we had easy job to finish the task. Nice work people, SL was pleased.
Night Raid on Rumayal

This went well this time. I was grenadier on Alpha. The first part of the assault went pretty well, until we reached the town. A static machine gun was pinning us down, and suddenly, the wall of the building I was in collapsed for no apparent reasons. A grenade from my M203 hit the MG and killed the gunner, yay. Incoming armor from the north was quickly dispatched by our AT gunner Alwarren. The rest was more or less dealing with the stragglers.

Drachenfels

I was commander of Ranger 2, the second Bradley. Dan was our intrepid leader. Planning was pretty solid, moving the whole armored column along the coast road, eliminating what was in our path. Unfortunately, our Viper got shot down by a ZU-23, but luckily, we could get the crew out and they went ahead and replaced the AI crew on one of the tanks.

After clearing the roadblock, after a short delay, the column moved on. Unfortunately, something sneaked up on us, I think it was an AA (another ZU-23) and killed us. Up to that point, flawless execution by my time, Gunner Alwarren and Driver Blindog. Good communication from all.

[And, as a non-tactical side node, a good example for a mission where the headless client worked very well]

Rainy Day

Ugh, that was a tough one. I was leader on that mission, so I ordered a broad line formation for the attack with bravo and charlie on the flanks and alpha in the middle, while the AAV held the high ground and pelted the town with machine gun fire.

Unfortunately, we had very early enemy contact, basically stumbling over some guy lying in the woods, which alerted the town. When we approached, we didn't have the benefit of the surprise anymore, and were caught in the open field, while enemies from the town picked us off with frightening precision. Most of us made it to the town but were subsequently slaughterd.

In hindsight, I think the idea of moving over the open field was not a good idea. I was hoping that the forest would shield us for most of the time, and afterwards, the buildings and the small rise would also serve as cover, but without ASR AI, the enemy soldiers had deadly accuracy. If I ever lead this one again, my main attack path would lead over the beach, I guess.

Missing in Action

I was the marksman in the ground team. Didn't have much enemy contact at first, and later on, the side I was guarding didn't have any contacts. So, when the extraction chopper arrived, I haven't fired a single shot and spent the rest of the mission waiting for the chopper to make it'S second run.

Kitkat Boom

Geez, what sick mind came up with this (Spoiler: It was, of course, Phantom).

On our first attempt, they killed Kenny (those bastards). Luckily, on our second Attempt, Kenny managed to get a free tickt to Loy Manara (I'm sure he ended there, seeing how high the car went).

We ran down the slope, yelling "Tossers" all the time, and got promptly killed by all the inhabitants of Takistan rolling up in armed pickups... I predict this will be out new Wild Riders and will take equally long to finish.

Silent Hill

I was again marksman, this time in Valhalian's Bravo team (who was not at all pissed by the fact that someone said Bytrica is in Czechoslovakia). Due to Stags great leadership, we made it to the town under constant fire, approached it, beat the devil out of it, and as soon as command gave the all clear, made a quick egress to the south, towards our next objective, with enemy troops taking potshots at us.

We assembled at the foot of Pik Kozlova, moving up the slopes until a deafening roar went up. I was sure we've been hit by artillery, but in fact, the whole northern side of Pik Kozlova was mined. I wonder what sick mind came up with that idea (Spoiler: It was, of course, Outlawz). Well, what was left of us (five guys) carefully licked each others wounds and went around the hill, finding and destroying the weapons, finishing the mission.

[A sidenote: This was an absolutely awesome mission]

Night Raid on Rumayal

I was in the BRDM with Sithis as my commander.
When Alfa and Bravo where in Position we moved a little forward fromn the assembly area and started surpressing the enemys in Rumayal. we soon were ordered to loop arround to the east of the town and enter from there. Unfortunately I mixed up radiotraffic and commands from Sithis and ended up exposing him to a HMG which killed him.
I bailed the vehicle and grabbed the RPK of the first dead enemy I came across and was attached to Variables team.
We cleared the rest of the town and took defensive positions as asecond enemy push came from the north. When most of the enemys where dead Variable lead us in a counter attack towards the north and we killed the last enemys .

Drachenfels

I was pilot of the AH-1 with Alias as my gunner.
at the beginning there where some problems with the LRR as per default I was using the vehicle radio. After that was sorted out we went to the south to get eyes on the enemy roadblock. Sithis called out a 9-line for us and I moved us into position tio attack the ZSU truck he wanted us to attack. Unfortunately there was also a manpad somewhere and we where blown out of the sky before we were able to engage.
Luckily Ranger 2 was able to get to us and Patch us up and we were attached to Ranger one under Variables command. We pushed on with the Tanks and soon where holding the enemys camp on the hilltop.

Rainy Day

I was maschinegunner in McGregors team.
After our first contact we switched positions and I got killed in transit.

Missing in action

I was CSAR Pilot and flight lead, I had Valahlian as my radio operator, spotter, Navigator and Stewardess and was glad to have a second set of eyes and that i didn't have to manage radio traffic on my own (even though i forgott from time to time)
First we were only able to determine that the missing aquad was somewhere in the eastern part of the map and started looking there, when we reached the northern end we turned to west and I diverted further south when I had massed contacts on the radar. While we were buisy trying to slipt by a town and getting shot at by a ZSU truck Variable and Alwarren in the AH-9 established Contact with the ground team and marked their position. Valhalian checked out their position and marked a route for me that kept us out of enemy range until we hit the city. In the city we quickly lost the AH-9 and we had to skim the treetops to prevent being shot down our selves. after some low and fast passes we found the green smoke marker the ground team had set up and since we had constand locks on our helicopter i decided to risk a quick landing being glad for the agile littlebird.
We were not able to take everyone aboard and had to leave being two men. we lifted of as soon as all seats were filled and advised the two remaining men to bail out towards the west, away from the city and the AA on the eastern ridge and hurried out.
At that point my pulse was probably somewhere over 200.
We made it back to the base and Valhalian (I forgot his job description also featured board technichian) checked the chopper for damage, but nothing critical had been hit.
Alias being Medic volunteered to come along in case the remaining men needed to be treated and Sithis brough up the Idea that we might want to take along a MG so Mjölnir came along as well. we quickly checked our chopper with a repair truck brought to us by Sithis and were on our way back to the Vally of death.
Valhalian marked a route again and we slowed down close to the mointain that the remaining men told us they would be west of. We saw some infantry and passed them close, came under fire since they were enemy and quickly got some distance between them and us. We hovered on the same aproach again and scaned for movement, when we saw someone moving in the position where we had alsmost landed on the hostile squad. we were quite sure they where enemys until mcgregor said he found black smoke and we saw one of the figures looting dead bodies. When he then marked their position with the black smoke we closed in and hovered over the ground while they boarded and Mjölnir surpressed enemys coming over the ridge to our south. As soon as both men were on board we sped away.
(on the way back i had a 10-15 second lag which almost resulted in us crashing into the ground)
when whe came close to a city it looked like someone had been especially nasty sice there was a lighning strike out of the blue sky.
We made our way back to the base without further crashing and ended the mission, unfortunately with two pilots lost.

KitKat Boom

I led with Stag leading the second team and Alwarren strapped onto a huge pink bomb.
our first attempt was not successfull as Alwarren was dead thus not able to detonate the bomb and I had missed that I could do so as well.

On the second attempt I spotted Alwarrens Pink Car close to the Fuel transporters and blew up his remains with the fueltanks and Ali's base. afterwards we rushed into the city killing the remaining forces and rearming from ammo crates that Sithis had found.
we were hardly done rearming and only had two people in position while the rest were out sweeping the town when technicals poured in. and even though we managed to kill some of them they quickly overwhelmed us.
probably we need to grab what we can as quickly as we can and just set up in the closest buildings.

Silent hill

I was Charly lead with Sithis and Phantom in my team plus one AI.

Following stags orders we went to the disembark point where we held position while Alfa and Bravo went on foot to investigate the area. after some time we were told tobring both armed vehicles closer so we we would be able to support when needed. on our way to the second hold point we came under fire and pushed on until we broke contact.
When Alfa and Bravo Attacked we drove to the end of the forrest and surpressed what we could see with both vehicles. the M2 truck got disabled pretty soon, but after some assesmennt and spotting for the MK19 we figured out the M2 was still usable and were able to use the LMG M2 and MK19 to put a lot of fire downrange until Alfa and Bravo were in the town.
Stag ordered us to regroup with them and I told Sithis and Valhalian do empty their ammo cans on the last tracers that we saw. After we regrouped with Stag my team brougth up the rear while we successfully swept the town.
When the town was cleared we bailed out towards the second objective. holding after about one kilometer to have everyone checked.
at the foot of the hill stag had us form a line and we marched on the enemys positions... only to find out there was quite a dense minefield which only 5 of us survived badly wounded. after that Stag led us in a successfull attack on the enemy weapon positions.
Night Raid Rumaya
(B-engineer (Valhalian))

Textbook execution at least in start. Bravo managed to get into the village without firing a shot under Valhalian's completent command. We cleared the village in concert with Alpha and BRDM-2 until it was taken out.

We had horde of technicals and dismounted infantry approaching from north. I was in top floor of house with Alias and we managed to take out at least one gunner/driver and ALphas AT eliminated the tank.  After that it was housecleaning until we got to another firefight at north in open plain. We received lot of grenade fire with casualties but mission was won. Nice atmospheric mission and nice teamwork.

Drachenfels
(all seeing and all knowing eye)

Tank/combined arms push

Purpose was as much to test HC rather than play the mission. We were short manned for this but the tracks on the ground got it done.

My job was spent behind the scenes sorting technical issues (discussed elsewhere). Several AI groups refused to move and as a result you had it easier than intended (considering you were short handed, it wasn't necessarily a bad thing).

It is easy to be wise from the sky, especially when you know the mission. Mission of ths scope is a tough stress test to leader. 4 tanks, 2 bradleys, CAS, 1 FAC. Lots of stuff to corrdinate. Den did fine in a tough mission after a bit of a confused start.

Authors intention was to emphasize co-op between FAC/fires observer (Sithis) and tank commander. FAC reports threats, and in concert they prioritize threats/targets. FAC eliminates AA with artillery, helicopter/tanks deals with vehicles, Bradley deals with infanty with Bushmasters, etc. Rock paper scissors. What I heard from LR Sithis did good job as a FAC. Nine-line to Unnamed was a turn on to listen. More coordination with Den-FAC in very start would have helped but mission was completed never the less.

In mission of this scope it might make sense to keep the lead vehicle (tank) behind a bit. One can't lead if dead. In this mission leader's job is to keep strings in hands and that means most of job is done talking to radio. Now we were short of 2 human controlled vehicles so leader tanks extra firepower in line was possibly justified.

You cleared roadblock and your FAC spotted two counterattacks of enemy tanks and as a result tanks/bradleys were ready for them and dispatched them with ease. People were also also alert for air threats and both armed Mi-8's were eliminated.

Things got to a regular clusterfuck at the hilltop and granted, that really isn't a job for vehicles. It would have been easier with air support available but those things never lasts. There were 2-3 BMPs and one AT infantryman+squad of cannonfodder at hilltop. Both BMPs refused to move an inch. You missed one of those and it casually let you drive past. You must have scared the crew.

One of your vehicles also repeatedly fired to town and hit USMC defenders. I gave warning in command grid for second offense. I assume you spotted targets in thermal, didn't ID them, and fired away.

After hilltop Den commanded remaining vehicles smartly to receive the incoming attack, and T-72 section and BMPs were eliminated. One AT gunner engaged your Bradley (likely Variables) but missed it.

Counterattack burning in flames, end of mission.

Rainy Day
(AAVP7 'Beach monster' commander)

USMC landing. Secure village by beach

Valhalian as my trusty gunner we set up to support the infantry. With both Mk19 and M2 that thing packs  serious firepower but handles like ADHD walrus. Drivers view is size of a post card and assessing dimensions of the vehicle was  difficult to estimate.

At first I wanted to go around the point but I was hesitant to go to water with AAV (don't ask). We climbed the beach bank, and made a dash to next cover, eating fire enroute. Alphas engineer fixed us and Varanon (A actual) told us to engage trash in town. Val reported a good firing position and The Creature of the Black Lagoon got to do some customer service with short controlled bursts.  We heard from radio that infantry pushing on our left flank in the forest was under heavy fire and we were commanded to take gloves off and switch to 40mms like men.  Valhalian also eliminated a squad of reinforcements on the lighthouse, possibly saving the friendly infantry.

Infantry eventually got to outskirts of town, met a Dishka, and The Thing was to move in and eliminate it. We crossed the beach and got the DIshka. We had also straggers here and there and Val was busy. We put a hefty fire to Chapel of Dagon and eliminated defendes inside with 40mms. Encounter with BRDM was spooky. Hull was like if it was raining hails. pop pop pop. I had no idea where the fire was coming from. We moved around until I saw BRDM right on front of us. Val eliminated it promptly and soon town was clear.

Next job for the King Kong was to move to hill to provide overwatch and scout next town. We eliminated one technical truck, but RPG gunner got us.

About plan:

Nothing wrong with it. You had basically three options. Flank from west around forest, middle through forest, or open beach with dead vehicles and Marines. Varanons plan was pretty much how I intended smart player approaches it. All these approaches are possible though and each one of them has its own unique surprise. I won't spoil further.

AI accuracy with this was just murderous and random encounter in start threw you off balance. I think Varanon did good job and The Godzilla got clear orders.

KitKat boom
(Bravo TL)

My medication isn't up to this mission. It was quite bizarre experience but mission is simple&straight forward. I was the suspect and guilty of friendly fire incident. I engaged technical truck with grenade. I did not see driver was out, and didn't realize Unnamed was caught with blast. This was my fault alone and my regrets.

I also think some instructions for Bravo were accidentally sent in SR instead of LR and my plan to move to 2-story house was foiled as it was leveled to a parking lot.  It didn't matter as I was pelted to ketchup by a .50 cal right after it.

ACR Silent hill
(A-SL)
Clear a village. Seek & destroy weapon displacements.

Relatively simple setup but tough to complete. A sign of a good mission.

My plan was to move north of objective, disembark, cut through the forest and approach village from hillside. 3 fireteams. Alpha had me, Alias, Misha, Brad and Bravo and Charlie were commanded by Val & Unnamed respectively. It turned out we have 2 armed vehicles and their firepower would have been foolish to miss. I changed plan and Charlie was to take control of 2 vehices and support us with big guns. Smart move.

A+B started the push through the forest. We got to initial overwatch hill and Alpha eliminated first enemy patrol. We really couldn't observe the target area, a village, so we had to move. Unnameds vehicles moved on road to our east and A+B started 300m push to the nearest buildings at village outskirts. Big plan was to move team by team with bounding overwatch, and have Unnameds vehicles to cover us during the final critical push from a distance.

We got spotted and A+B pushed under heavy fire.  Both teams made to first set of buildings which were nothing but poor shacks. We were constatly under fire and our only availabe option at that point was to push to village itself.  Alias, our medic was busy as we were taking plenty of fire from bushes. Unnamed reported vehicles taking fire and I was sure that's it, good game, see you in lobby. However they survived and we soon saw comforting tracers+40mm fire from the east.

Now we had to cross 200m in plain open field. Alpha popped smokes, likely mostly for mental comfort alone, and crossed field ad Bravo covered. We made it to the village! Alpha covered and Bravo crossed. Both teams miraculously made it with no casualties.  Unnameds vehicles were damaged and team RVd with us on foot. We systematically cleared the village and found out (because I didnt check map for task marker) that weapon displacements are 600m to south on a steep hilltop (same as OP Drachenfels).

Another open field crossing but all teams made it to forest. We set up below the hill to wide line and started moving up.

Kaboom.

We hit a minefield with no warning. We were in wide line but the thing got all of us save our AI. Our AI revived us, but this cost us several minutes and half of team ran out of their revive timers.

We backtracked, used Alwarren as a bait and went around the hill. We found weapon displacements, some enemies+frags, set up charges, lit them up, =  mission win.

This was a tough mission, and until we hit minefield, we had completed it without a single casualty. It could have swung both ways in several occasions, but this time stars+firepower were on our side.

Outstanding job everyone.
Quote:at the beginning there where some problems with the LRR as per default

EASY way to fix this issue (everyone take note):

1. Use the key you normally use for setting your LR frequency, e.g. ALT-P
2. In the popup menu, select your BACKPACK radio
3. Select "Activate" (or something similar, don't know the exact text)

Problem solved Smile
That's what I did,  it just took me a few moments to realise you guys didn't read me and what the problem was^^

We practiced lots of 9-lines on the DCS nights  ;D , but it was so devastating, that after gathering all this information and putting it together, to have the helicopter ripped away from you with no change to avoid it.
Other notable execs as well but I debrief last first...

Prince of Persia IV
(a lesser god)

Locate & link up with Major Namdar. Rescue & retrieve his backpack.

For some reason I got error as Zeus and my curator interface was running with skeleton adds/extra restrictions. I was not able to take control of units, spawn flares, or interactive intel. First would have given me a chance to intervene at one critical phase and possibly save Major N, and last two would have helped in latter part of the mission. As a result it was more of a spectating, but I had my fun as well. Mission is relatively fool-proof even without curator, and I was surprised how well AI worked despite my fears. In the end I did very little adjustements.

Here's how it started. Varanon was commading the rescue team and Outlawz/McGregor sniper team were to assist. Major Namdar (Variable) is all alone in ruined Kavala and special forces team regrouping at shore.

Special forces team moved to old supply post, and engaged enemy patrol guarding captured CSAT hardware. All well so far. Major Namdar was playing hide and seek with enemy patrols, and took cover in a tall office building and signaled his presence with smoke. At this point sniper team was just setting up, and they probably missed it.

Specops/sniper team were self sustaining organism and with a bit of a divine 155mm assistance, they managed to destroy the transformer, and thus creating a city-wide blackout. At the same time Major Namdar continued his trek on foot. He dodged admirably two VERY close encounters, and overcame enemy rifleman in one confrontation.

He ended up to two story building here, and evaded patrolling Namer IFV. All good so far. Nothing disastrous yet. However shortly after this he encountered enemies and the IFV, which left him bleeding.

Variable tried to crawl to further north, but at this time spec ops team was engaged by APC at the old command post which caused critical delay. Sniper/spotter team likely would have been able to see crawling major from their location, but they had hands full with overwatch/assistance to spec op team.

In the end gallant major's strenght faded. Spec ops team was not that far, but they had another epic encounter with the APC. I was genuinely surprised they survived. I tried to pull one of teams away to reward your efforts, but even a god couldn't do that once they got a fix of you. Sometimes at this time sniper duo got killed as well.

I placed different colours of chemlights to area where Namdar had fallen. I thought that 3-4 different circus coloured chem lights would be a suitable hint of 'I have been here'. I also put several coloured smokes but no one noticed them. We talked of this after mission and apparently people had missed them.

Spec ops team reached Southern Command post. I put a trail of red chemlights leading out of chapel, but it didn't help. I would have put interactive intel folder of 'Majors diary' with extra hints, but due error/limited curator settings, I wasn't able to. At this point enemies finally got too good fix, and hunter GMG/AAA duo turned the survivors to ketchup.

Great attempt people, especially Variable. It was lots of fun to watch you. You missed your backpack sooooo damn close.  I won't spoil further, but there are couple of ways for Major to mark his trail, just in case.  I likely fine tune his loadout a bit to help with this.  I hope this will be replayed one day and that it didn't frustrate the crap out of you.

Hornet's Nest

Good leading by Varanon in this mission. I was the AT guy and ended up wondering why I was lugging the Carl Gustav around (I have real-life experience carrying that thing, it's heavy as shit Smile ) Pretty action-packed mission, and a few times it could have swung around pretty much the other way, but in the end, good execution and we made it out without any losses.

Winter's Pack

Finally made the main goal on this mission. It was tough, but this time I purposely avoided any contact, and so we made it to the first grad undetected and Valhalian could plant a charge under the truck. I had thought that ten minutes would be enough to reach the second GRAD, and although it was close it came just in the right time to distract the enemy. Unfortunately, they had almost run over us before, and we had to engage. From there on out, it was constant firefights. We managed to rig the two remaining GRAD's and retreat to the shore. I kept everyone on the move at all time, and a few situations turned out to be quite hairy... I was really annoyed that we lost Val in the retreat, I was so happy that we hadn't lost anyone up to that point.

It was good we came across the Zodiac's on the pier; it wasn't that far away from our own boats, but then, I have no idea if they would have moved because, you know, PhysX FTW.

In any case, excellent job, good execution and the quality of leadership was only surpassed by the leader's rugged handsomeness.

Wraith Recon 5

Same ruggedly handsome leader, I decided this time to go on foot rather than try the truck. After the usual disappointment at the AAF Underground Facility, we cut across south-east towards the munitions check point. Unfortunately, I was careless and we were spotted from the Fuel depot. What ensued was a pretty hefty firefight. When we started to get engaged by a heavy machine gun (I suppose that was the Hunter), I decided to push forward with force into the checkpoint (it was still occupied but I figured our chances there where better). It wasn't a second too early, since by then a hitherto unnoticed Marshall started to engage. Unfortunately, it got Stag, and when Varanon was treating him the second salvo killed him. Freeman bandaged Varanon and we pushed into the compound.

At this point, I think that was the right decision.

We found explosives at the site, packed up with those and all the ammo we could find, and left the checkpoint to the south. I was planning on hitting the southern fuel points first since our extraction was in the north and that would make a shorter trip.  Halfway towards the gas station we got under fire from a grenadier, so I ordered everyone back to the industrial compound we had just cleared, intendeing to go the other way and cross over the street. Something shot me, I don't remember what, but unfortunately at this point the mission ended for me.

Point Insertion

Stag was leading this one. After a few equipment problems in the beginning (Long range radio doesn't hold a lot of equipment) we made our way up over the ridge line towards Point Black. We got surprised by a small patrol on the way, and while we quickly dispatched of them, their fire was probably part of the reason we got jumped again when we reached the ridge, which cost us Varanon.

Stag ordered me and Alias to remain on the hillside (marksman and Automatic Rifleman). My job was to take out the heavy machine gun at the camp. When the assault team was spotted, I shot the HMG gunner but he managed to shoot a salvo in my direction still, which killed me. Moments later, though, the hillside and Alias were turned into a thing grey smudge by an incoming mortar round anyway. The assault team didn't last very long.

There wasn't really much resistance at the camp, so I am not entirely sure why this went do so fast. I guess part of it was that the mortars were manned. Losing the support team on the hillside definitely was a bad thing to happen.

Anyway good mission yesterday. One more thing: Mjolnir and Skarin, most of the time some member is on the Discord chat, so I would appreciate if you could poke the chat so that addon issues can be sorted out before the evening Smile

Destroy Grad launchers. Locate and destroy command truck (optional)

Was fun to watch. Great job guys, but it was much closer call than you thought and could have easily swung both ways even if it might not have been apparent to you. I was concerned that AI running amok due disconnects would trigger detection but taking over command bar / teleporting missing sheep back to group saved the day. I held some units back while you were sorting issues at beach.

From my viewpoint, what mostly contributed to mission win vs last episodes:

1) Remaining undetected. This time you managed to stay undetected longer. You had close encounter at beach and I was wondering if you open up. Killing them silently would have also been fine, but it would have been at cost of extra risk. If they manage to get a shot, that's it.  Your leader decided to keep cool and let them go. Smart. You were apparently able to spot 1st launcher due audiovisual clues and got to right track.  Someone, I think Valhalian, managed to sneak in and set charges on first grad undetected and you got a clue of the location of next two launchers.  At this point enemies had also discovered your original boats (random chance).

Enemies were on higher alert, but they had no 'real' information what they were dealing with until late. No 'heavy' reinforcements were sent until you guys were already enroute back.

2) Moving. Keeping on the move, as the action started, was a smart thing to do. I sent patrols only to locations they had information of. Audible firefights, burning wrecks. Weather was also on your side, as in these conditions you could see better than AI. One close encounter was at the beach with armed MRAP but you eliminated it.

Enemies were chasing you but couldn't catch you and you dealt with couple of small sentry patrols  on beach swiftly. Decision to use boats at civilian pier was a good move. As I said there was a random chance for patrol to discover your original boats. This time it triggered. There was a squad awaiting you in ambush positions. It might have been  possible to fight way through it but leader's call to use the civilian boat at pier was definetely a good move. By time last boat was moving there was 3 fireteams about to open up on you. I was happily surprised you made it.

Wraith Recon 5
(Marksman)

I like the mission setup but I think there is too much hiking in open terrain and bit too many vehicles. Idea to make the location of explosives random is technically nice but also frustrating.

That said there were nice firefights, nice tension, and my call 'It is safe to push to compound....boomboomboom'  could have used fine tuning. I simply didn't see the damn thing as I was only concerned of the immediate surroundings. Glad it didn't cost other lives.

It looked like fun from the sky but this had also potential to be a long mission.

Point insertion
(SL)

Seek&destroy AAA at airfield. Destroy mortar team (optional)

I hate to sound like a ice hockey coach but in this case 90% concentration yielded 50% results.  Not on my team's part but on my own part. Being tired is no excuse not to plan properly and approach mission with devil may care attitude. That said, the plan might have worked and it wasn't that far from completion.

Mission setup was simple & nice although I wasn't sure how on hell to approach this in broad daylight. Setup enables underwater/ surface insertion which adds to options. It also turned out to be more versatile than I thought.

I decided to hit secondary objective, secure mortars, and then plan the assault to main objective on the ground in situ.

In general I love seaborne insertions, especially with waves. It was moody and atmospheric. However my chosen LZ had geological obstacles. Pro tip: Secluded cove is nice for romantic picnic. It isn't always best LZ. After a bit of horizontal rock climbing we made our way up the hill to secondary objective. We also spotted primary objective at a distance in southern end of airfield and I considered option to engage the AAA's at maximum range of our PCMLs. However launcher refused to reliably lock so I decided against it. I was also concerned if it is intent of author and if it is 'cheating'. Now that I think, it makes sense. Using hills 200m to north would have likely been ok but it would have meant backtracking. I decided fuck with it, and to go after secondary.

We had skirmishes with enemy patrols enroute but overcame the opposition. I left Alias and Alwarren to provide overwatch and flanked from right with rest of team. There wasn't that much opposition and in end there were only couple of bad guys left. With just a bit sharper execution it is perfectly doable. Then leave one man to mortar, rest takes Ifrit, drives back to northern hill and spots for mortar hits/uses PCMLs and that's it.

My team did just fine. It just wasn't my best day in controls. We play this again I am sure!
Lost Squad
(shortest Helicopter ride ever)

I started out in a damaged helicopter, which I repaired via console. When I took off the carrier, the angle of flight made the HUD projection screen glare up so I tried to get rid of it. For some reason, though, my chopper wasn't gaining altitude. Might be that I was not taking care, whatever it was when I finally got the HUD folded up I saw water in front of me before turning into a quickly quenched fireball.

Mortarded
(benevolent god)

Teams avoided two patrols that were pretty close (one of them was an extra two-man recon team I added with my godly powers). It was a good call to put the mine on the road to the north, since there was a Stryker with a full load of troops coming that way. Unfortunately, the Stryker stopped short of the mind and unloaded their troops, then proceeded through the forest.

TBH, at this point I tried to direct it onto the mine. The behavior of the AI was illogical, the apc should have driven all the way through to the FOB. While I was busy trying to get the APC team to get back to safe mode, the teams at the FOB got wiped. Doh.

The reason you were detected was that one of the guys in the patrol you engaged got a shot off and the machine gunner in the bunker next to the main entrance noticed you. There is a good chance to avoid detection, since the "Detected By" trigger has a timeout.

Goddamn patrol boat got stuck in the shallow water. I think I will get rid of it and allow players to land on the beach opposite to the FOB.

Battle for Zaros
(shortest Commander duty ever)

After talking everyone through a radio check and getting reports of troop movement, I decided to get into my Hunter and drive to the north eastern barricade. I hadn't even started the engine when I was hit by a magic missile from the magic all-seeing fairy dust radar in the AI chopper.

Without Banners
(Ghillie-suited recon)

On the way to our overwatch point, the night was so dark and full of terrors that my quad bike refused to continue (well, okay, it might have something to do with that pesky little tree that ran in front of me and trashed the quad). Continuing on foot, Val and me made it to the overwatch point and started our work.

I really enjoyed that part most. I don't mind not firing a single shot, the darkness and the unknown made it a very tense couple of minutes. We managed to successfully identify convoys and relay the information to the ambush team.

The way back was lighted by a couple of burning wrecks on the road.

Once back at the gatehouse Bravo squad apparently decided to spontaneously combust, and the Takistani BTR-60 mobbed up the floor with us. Brutal.

Who Dares Wins
(SAS Team leader)

The decision to land on the roof was... flawed I guess. For one thing, half the team missed it. One might argue that we got out of the plane too slow, but I was the last one to get out and I did land on the roof. But then, the scaffolding down from the roof glitched the fuck out of me so I had to be revived.

I also noticed that it apparently is not enough to say "Get to the RV point if you don't make it onto the roof" only five times, as there were still people asking "should we go to the RV point".

Kudos to Variable for killing the DJ. I like the sound effect Big Grin

Destroy enemy mortar vehicles in heavily fortified compound.

With Valhalian as my trusted aide-de-camp two brave Spetznaz teams on zodiacs set off for landing zone in midsummer's night. No drunken fishermen, noisy people at their summer residences but otherwise I felt right at home on a Finnish lake (we can pretend it is sea)

Several options were brought up during briefing/planning phase but I decided to land to western side of peninsula and proceed to the target area by the beach, cut in to forest, and observe the target. Commander's briefing recommended staying undetected so we played it safe. With a bit of careful movement and hide and seek with US patrols in finnish forest we reached our objective. I sent Bravo to probe SW entrance and took my team to approach the northern entrance.  Den put AT mine to road as a insurance and we got eyes on heavily fortified entrance.  Plan was to stack up on haskell barrier, blow up the house, push through the ruins and clean it with cqb.

We had gotten up to this point without detection. Lego was good point man/scout and Bravo had kept it quiet as well. We spotted a patrol approaching us weapons up. Bravo had reported readiness to breach, and we would have had to deal with them any way at some point. We were about to breach anyway and I didn't feel like sneaking any more. I decided to lit them up but one of them got audible shot off. However we quickly cut them down and pushed to H-barrier despite mg fire, Den detonated the building (aka our entry) and I was shot to face. Once more to the breach and something like that. Next time chances of success are better if we properly grenade the entrance instead of playing Henry V.  Leader is not the best choice for a point man in breach. I used separate point man/scout/landmine bait during insertion and should have done the same with cqb.

Mission wise i really liked it. Presence of Zeus adds element of surprise and randomness to mission with a human touch. I suspect certain fishing boats/civilians were of divine origin and good tests of fire discipline. Removing PT boat would enable eastern shore insertion and make this more straight forwar / shorter, but I also liked this way. Now there was nice mix of boating, sneaking, and bit of action.

I am not really sure how to tackle the objective. I would like to try with similar approach again. Main entrance is a suicide unless sniper finds a really good spot and in this terrain with this distance there is always risk of detection. I'd be inclined to try the destroy buildings / push through ruins method, just with a bit better execution.

Battle of Zaros
(Tank cmdr)

Defend Zaros

Very fun action packed combined arms mission. HC made it a joy to play.  I was tank commander with Etzu as gunner and Brad as driver.  We were stationed at NW sector. Losing our overall commander at start was a tough blow and it meant we had to operate vehicle using our best judgement without central command for a while. I tried to listen comm grid for what's going on in other outposts to maintain some kind of overall picture.

We were mostly up against infantry targets and we engaged them outside their rpg range. All good until we spotted Kajman. I shot it with MG but when it was turning about I told people to disembark. Brad repaired damaged tank and AAA eliminated the wretch. We returned to tank and as I was getting directions from new commander, a jet nuked us to particles. EOM. Air to ground attack jet is designed to hunt tanks so this wasn't unreasonable loss considering we were on pretty much open. I just should have disembarked again upon spotting jet but it feels kind of silly to bunny hop back and forth every time there is something up in the air.

Ambush supply column. Disable/repair supply trucks. Deliver them to safe house.

I don't usually enjoy my own missions but this wasn't that bad, save the incident with supply truck. Plot device for the mission was the convoy(s), and had they not worked, mission would not have worked. Fortunately that part of mission was just fine.

Under Variables command we set up ambush to old timber yard. Our nemesis of the previous missions, the BMP-convoy, passed us without detection. We got very good intel from Alwarren's spotter team of the threat picture.

The real convoy was spotted after the BMP convoy. It had BRDM-2, three supply trucks, troop transport and technical truck. BRDM-2 missed my AT mine and I didn't dare to set up the charges as the supply truck was next to them. As a resul technical truck and one supply truck escaped, but were stopped 200m to east.  None of the trucks were rendered beyond repair! We gathered up and drove the trucks back to safe house through the forest, following the power line.  There were million things to consider for leader and Variable kept admirably strings in hands.

One nasty incident tarred the mission for me. For some reason supply truck carrying weapons and Bravo-team detonated without apparent cause. I assume it collided with a motorcycle at safe house and due exotic physix of Chernarus, it meant a kaboom. Sigh.

However due excellence of NAPA insurgency, the brotherhood without banners took care of the business even without fancy hardware.  Had we had Bravo team/weapons shipment intact, outcome might have been different but even like this it was a great firefight! (Shootdown of Mi-17, disabling BTR, etc).  Great leading, great fun.
