Hola,

one thing i really dont like in Arma2 are the popcorn sounds of the sonic cracks. Maybe its realistic, but it simply sound ugly for me. Could they be disabled?

I tried some soundmods aswell, but none i tried did disable them all. Maybe i missed some good one? What are your experiences/preferences? I like RWS, but it still has the cracks...

Tony
Dunno if it's possible to disable them whitout making your own sound-mod...
There are some sound-mods around but I haven't tried anyone. Maybe someone can suggest any? Cause I totally agree with Tony, even OFP got better sound from some weapons Sad Some sounds in ArmA2 sound to "flat" for me, there's no "punch" in'em, that's not realistic. Even a ricco sound have a certain "punch" in it.
If you're interested of any soundmods I highly recommend trying J.S.R.S. I've always been big fan of soundmods and tried pretty much all of them, and so far I'm absolutely loving this one over any other. Might be a bit "hollywood" style sounds but give it a try and see how you feel yourself.

You need to download these all:
Core http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=11549
Patch #1 http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=12865
Patch #2 http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=12913
British weapons http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=12965

And for the original question: this mod has also an option to download some reworked soniccracks http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=13023 Although I think the default JSRS has different cracks than vanilla Arma2.

The best one I've come across so far would be this: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=104514 By far the most realistic gun sounds in any game Ive played so far. (And Ive had plenty of chance to actually compare them to their real equivalents)
Thanks, is this compatible with e.g. FDF?

I've been using this soundmod also with FDF. Haven't noticed any problems.

You mean JSRS?
Tried it last night and I am really pleased. A really immersive sound mod.
Hmmm.. I'm going to download this but one thing that concerns me, is that the dev at armaholic said that this takes 3-4 times more hardware than the original sounds. I wonder how much that will impact my gaming since my pc is not actually a top notch one.

Just try and see for yourself. I didn't feel any difference. Maybe 4 times hardware resources is still very low as far as sound is concerned.
Oh and for those who install it, JSRS includes many mod folders. You can just put them under a single mod folder, works fine for me and Osku. I guess he did that this way so people could be selective of what sound part to use.
The British DLC is also recommended.
